2016 Season Fast Approaching
As April Preparations Continue

This month's first meeting of the Board signaled the 90 day mark to the opening of SLI 2016 Season and in 10 days we will be at the 60 day mark. Behind the scenes work continues to ensure details are well in place for the July 4th weekend.

This year's Season-Opening Worship Service will again be featured at the SLI Blue Dock at Lakeview and Wesley Avenues. The Service will be led by the Rev. Dr. Don Weaver from Harris Avenue, with the Rev. Dr. D. Gregory VanDusen, retired United Methodist pastor, as our guest speaker. Chaplain Greg Franklin will be out of town officiating his granddaughter's Christian blessing of a civic ceremony of marriage. Volunteers will again provide for our Hot Dog Fellowship following the Service to which all are invited! This year's calendar of guest speakers come from a wide range of backgrounds and should prove very interesting and inspirational.

The Personnel Committee has made the decision to leave the office clerk position unfilled, at least for the time being. The volunteers who have been keeping the daily tasks of the office going, will be continuing to do so, not only saving money but also pointing to the continuing fact that our strengths lie with our great volunteers who accomplish so much for our community and its mission. Bill Schaefer is chair of this committee.

The Nominations Committee is working on its 2016-17 slate of Trustees to be presented for election to the 2016 Annual Property Owners meeting held the second Saturday of July at Epworth Hall. This year's slate will be three property owners larger, representing one of the changes made in light of the legal separation of the Upper NY Annual Conference and the Silver Lake Institute. The UNYAC will no longer be a part of our Board of Trustees. This action, prepared by the Legal Committee, took place in State Supreme Court, Feb. 2, 2016, in Warsaw. Julie Hoffman is chair of Nominations.

The Epworth Hall Committee will meet in two weeks to update its members on the status of its various on-going projects and prepare for those that are upcoming in the next four months. Our historical buildings remain a high priority not only as historical but as buildings that are used regularly for our weekly programming. Sharon Pratt is chair of this committee.

One does not have to be a Trustee in order to serve. Anyone having an interest in serving on one of our committees should speak with the chair person of that committee. All of our committees are listed in the left hand column of this Blog.
